Being the mother of #English-language women’s #theater in Israel is a tremendous honor. But it didn’t come about because I love theater (although I do). It happened because I #love people. I want them to feel safe and secure, confident and proud of their lives.
In May, exactly 20 years ago, my friend Sara Blaustein, and next door neighbor Esther Elvan, were #murdered on the road outside of my #hometown #Efrat. Trying to find a way to raise the spirits, I followed a post-#Depression–#America formula. “Let’s put on a show”. Providing #women a supportive family during trying times.
Raise Your Spirits
was the first theater company I founded, and it’s still on stage today 2 decades later. Since then, I’m proud to say that wonderful women’s theater companies have sprouted all over Israel.
Wanting to help families in poverty, I created:
Dames of the Dance, which has been dancing for charity for 13 years. #Olim and veteran Israelis forged friendships through the language of dance. Since 2007 Dames has #donated more than a half million nis to support worthy #charities.
When teenagers asked to take the stage with their own choreography and their own dance crews, I founded my third company NOARoked (youth dances) to give them a #stage.
When women in Greater #Jerusalem felt isolated during rough times, along with 3 friends (Avital Macales, Shifra Penkower and Bati Katz Koplon), I co-founded The Women’s Performance Community of Jerusalem in 2015, and partnered in our activities with #OU Israel.
Over the past 20 years, I’ve performed on stage as villains and character actors. My greatest stage joys is tap #dancing with my daughter Bati. I’ve produced more than 20 shows and co-authored 6 #musicals.
While women’s performance has become my passion, I actually work as production manager of “Torah Live”, which teaches #Jewish #heritage and #Torah through the language of today’s media.
I volunteer in the Gush Etzion Soldier’s Hospitality Hut, the #Gush Katif Bridal Project and the Board of Directors of the Efrat Community Center.
My biggest achievement, is my family. They are the greatest loves of my life
